What’s Duct Tape For?
Don’t check you watches, it’s not Thursday. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the SciSpeak eNewsletter is coming out 1 day earlier. What do you use duct tape for? McGyver used it to fix everything from car tires to airplanes. Now it’s for 8 year old girls making purses.
Recently, my daughter went to visit her cousin in Detroit and came back with a new purse – made from Duct Tape! My father and I used duct tape, but we didn’t make purses. It’s industrial strength tape used to hold things together, right?
Duct tape and Sharpie are reinventing themselves – to the pleasure of their customers. Pinterest. Facebook. Twitter. If you want to have products / services that lead your company to the next decade / century, try these tips:
- Forget the past: You know a company is in trouble when all they talk about is how great theyused to be. Kaizen is the Japanese word for continuous improvement. Don’t settle for now.
- Know Them – If your customers are one group, PIVOT. Find a way to add other groups to your client list. Teachers. Doctors. Technicians. Show them how they can benefit from your product.
- Have fun! – When all else fails, think about what’s fun. Duct Tape and Sharpie focus on the fun things people do with their products. Corporate accounts will come later. First: make them smile.
There are even website sites popping up to show what you can do with it: World of Crazy and Sharpie Blog. Get creative and innovative. Clients will appreciate it.
